The Great Texas River Clean Up is a major annual event in San Marcos that brings hundreds of volunteers together to remove trash and protect local watersheds. 650 volunteers participated in the Fall River Clean-up on October 4, 2025.

The Rotary Club of San Marcos was chartered in 1921. On December 01, 2021, it celebrated its 100th anniversary. What they all share is a passion for solving problems and improving people’s lives. Our members work in their own communities and partner with other clubs on international projects that address today’s most pressing challenges.

School Fuel’s mission is to provide the "fuel" for a better learning environment by removing the pangs of hunger among the students in San Marcos classrooms. Over 75% of our school-age children qualify for the federal free/reduced-price lunch program. Most of them go home on the weekends to little or no food. School Fuel is staffed entirely by volunteers to maximize the number of hungry students it serves.

Surge Soccer Club is a non-profit, tax-exempt youth soccer organization based in San Marcos, TX, serving San Marcos and surrounding communities like Wimberley, Martindale, and Lockhart. They host recreational leagues and the Surge Select competitive travel program at the Five Mile Dam Soccer Complex. The club focuses on fostering good sportsmanship and skill development for players of all levels.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. Their focus is on projects that strengthen communities and serve children. They also have a Patriotic Flag program and partner with a local Boy Scouts Troop to install and remove flags on several U.S. holidays.

The LBJ Museum of San Marcos is dedicated to showcasing the 36th President of the United States, Lyndon Baines Johnson’s years as a student at Southwest Texas State Teachers College (now Texas State University). The Lyndon Baines Johnson Museum of San Marcos is the only Johnson site in Texas dedicated to his years as a university student, including his time teaching in Cotulla, Texas.

San Marcos Academy, located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, is a fully accredited Private Christian school for students in PreK 3 through 12th grade, with a boarding program for students in 6th–12th grade. The Foundation provides funds not available through the District’s normal operating budget for programs and activities that facilitate student achievement, recognize and encourage staff excellence, and provide a vital link between the community and the classroom.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community. The San Marcos Wolverines Special Olympics team achieved national prominence by winning the gold medal in soccer at the Special Olympics USA Games. Locally, Special Olympics Texas (Area 13) regularly hosts competitions—such as the 3v3 and 5v5 Basketball Tournaments—at the Texas State University Jowers Center. Residents can participate as "Fans in the Stands" during area competitions or volunteer as coaches, referees, and event support staff.

Located at 301 Foxtail Run in San Marcos, TX, the school offers a range of academic and extracurricular programs, including a dedicated orchestra and athletics programs.

The "Summer in the Park" series in San Marcos, TX, is a beloved, free outdoor family-friendly concert held every Thursday evening from early June to mid-August at San Marcos Plaza Park. Celebrating its 40th season, the event features a variety of live music genres and runs from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Since 1987, San Marcos residents and visitors have enjoyed a family-friendly music concert every Thursday evening during the summer months – including virtual concerts during the pandemic! Concerts are hosted at the San Marcos Plaza Park every Thursday during the summer from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Guests are welcome to arrive early to enjoy the park and set up. Bring your lawn chair or a blanket and, if you’d like, bring an ice chest of your favorite beverages – or you can support the local Boy Scouts by buying refreshments from their booth. This event is produced through a partnership of the Summer in the Park 501c3 non-profit, the San Marcos Performing Arts Association, the Parks and Recreation department of the City of San Marcos, and the San Marcos Convention and Visitors Bureau.

CASA of Central Texas, Inc. provides high-quality, best-interest advocacy for children and youth in the child welfare system. They train and empower dedicated volunteers to ensure children’s needs are met. They commit to strengthening the connections and well-being of children in foster care, one family at a time.

This community event features emergency preparedness demonstrations, first responders and emergency vehicles, local vendors, children’s activities, food trucks, live music, a silent auction, raffle, and more.

Head to Toe is a nonprofit organization that helps students enrolled in SMCISD experiencing financial hardship by providing back-to-school essentials free of charge, along with a fresh haircut and other hygiene products. Students are referred to our program through counselors, teachers, and Communities in Schools staff members.

The Mistick Krewe of Okeanos is a Mardi Gras Krewe based in San Marcos, Texas. Their stated mission is to support music and the arts locally and bring neighbors together. They produce an annual parade on the Saturday before Mardi Gras. Krewe holds other private events for members. They are a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation. Mistick Krewe is the assumed name for the Texas Council for Music and the Arts, Inc.

Pet Prevent a Litter (PALS) of Central Texas is to combat pet overpopulation and homelessness through accessible, community-driven solutions. They are dedicated to promoting responsible pet ownership by offering educational programs to the public and providing low-cost, income-based Human and Animal services for economically disadvantaged residents, including sterilization, vaccinations, microchipping, and a pet food pantry.

Since its founding in 1941, the San Marcos Lions Club has served our community year-round by providing vision assistance to those in need, scholarships to our local students, and support to local charities in continuing their programs.

The Jingle Bell Run is a 5K event that runs through our beautiful downtown and Historic District. The race will start and finish at the San Marcos Plaza Park at Hutchison & CM Allen. The Kids K route runs through our Sights and Sounds Festival!

TEXSAR is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit first responder organization headquartered in Texas. TEXSAR serves all citizens of the State of Texas and deploys at the request of law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency management agencies. TEXSAR provides specialized services such as ground search and rescue, flood and Swiftwater rescue, K9 search, rescue, and recovery, disaster relief services, aerial search, and UAV support. TEXSAR is fully self-sufficient, including incident management team (IMT) capabilities, logistics, and communications. TEXSAR’s services are free to requesting agencies and are staffed by volunteers who are trained professionals in their fields.
TEXSAR is made up of multiple divisions across the State and deploys to all 254 counties in the State of Texas. TEXSAR has been a significant leader in emergency services and disaster response in the great state of Texas since 2004 and has evolved over the years into one of the largest unpaid search-and-rescue organizations in the State.

Thriving Hearts Crisis Center is dedicated to creating a safe space where all survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault receive high-quality services and are treated with respect and dignity. They serve Guadalupe, Gonzales, Karnes, and Wilson Counties.
